How Does Your Essential Self Look?

IMG_0057_2

I was going through a wee dark night of the soul this weekend. My grief was coming out sideways and wreaking havok on some of my relationships (My mom died two months ago). Whoever said that it has to be dark to see the stars is absolutely correct, but I fight it every time.  That darkness can be hard to sit in.

Earlier this week, thankfully, I was reminded by somebody wise that I do best when I lead from my essential self…my higher self.  That part of me is wise and utterly unbreakable.  I find her in meditation, prayer, painting, or paying rapt attention to almost anything.

That part of me I “see” as a single perfect blooming rose.

I shared this with a close friend when I was really feeling terrible.

She reminded me of the beautiful song by that name.

Listening to it (while looking at the lyrics) brought big fat happy/sad tears- the best kind.

Here are the lyrics and the recording I liked best.

Some say love, it is a river, that drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor, that leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower, and you, its only seed
It’s the heart afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance
It’s the dream afraid of waking, that never takes the chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken, who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying, that never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed, that with the sun’s love in the spring becomes the rose.

Lyric: Amanda Mcbroom

So, this winter, I’d like to think of as a time when we plant our love seeds (The Beavis and Butthead part of me is laughing as I type this!)  and water them (in the dark)  so that we may all BLOOM wildly this Spring.

Love isn’t only for the lucky.

I believe it is for the willing.

For those willing to risk it all and open up to it. To be willing to offer it. To be wiling to plant it.  To be willing to receive it.

You are the seed.
