We Do It When It’s Time

(art for purchase via Ghost Ship Gallery “The Pugs and Peonies Whispered Their Good Advice”)
Here’s this week’s list of my favorite GROWTH FOOD for humans!
1. WE do it when it’s time. I have been noticing this pattern in my life where I BEGIN to think about something that I want to do- or something that needs to change (like to improve my marriage, or to do a certain creative project or to learn something new) and then I don’t actually start to make a move for months and OFTEN, for YEARS! How silly or weird that seems? Only, it’s not. It’s normal.
We can get stuck in the: comfort zone, fear of unknown, analysis paralysis or just stuck because we KNOW its not going to be easy.
The good news is that eventually.…I DO IT.
I take action. I think that most of us DO IT WHEN IT’s TIME.
Sometimes, we finally have the time to do it (hello pandemic! or maybe you took a radical sabbatical like me?) or sometimes something scary happens that thrusts us into action ( a health scare, or a death of somebody). I don’t believe that we have to worry about it—we will do it when the time is right for us.
We are always being guided from within! Your thoughts?
What have you been pre-preparing to change in your life?
What are you ready to take action on in 2025?
2. 2025 is my year to _________ .
I got so many lovely responses to this prompt when I shared it. For me, it looks like this is the year to tend to my health via the food I eat and LET GO OF PLANNING.
When I traveled to Guatemala, recently, I had a powerful reading from a shaman. He threw some beans and seeds to ask the divine for help with my question. “How can I take care of my health?”.
I have been anxious about Lewy body dementia as it has effected several family members including my grandpa, my aunt and probably (his doctors and I believe) my dad too. Sometimes, these questions that are near and dear to our hearts are hard to journey for ourselves on.
The shaman shared that it would be best if I stopped making so many plans and let life be “a surprise”…he said all the the planning was hard on me. That resonated. He also reminded me that we all came here to die- to die is very human. 🙂
I have been doing my best to live without planning and its been lovely so far!
3. How Not to Die. Getting to be of a certain age and losing both of my parents and my mom-in-law has certainly woken me up to wanting to do the best I can to age gracefully and with vibrant health.
Thanks to a post I made about dementia on facebook, a friend recommended a prevention book which took me down a MOST DELICIOUS RABBIT HOLE.
I’ve been binging so many wonderful documentaries + books about Whole Foods Plant Based Eating (WFPB) and wow!! I’m feeling so inspired.
My ️favorites so far are:
“How Not to Die” (a book!) by Michael Greger MD
AND
“Eating You Alive” (a documentary) that’s free on YouTube and excellent
(The Game Changers on Netflix is also great/ esp for men!)
Are you already WFPB?
What resources have inspired you to make the change or kept you going?
Two days ago I made this plant based Parmesan and we are loving it on salads and pasta!

4. Dementia steals so much from individuals and families.
I read this book last month and it offered something I didn’t know about. The legal option of voluntary stop eating and drinking for patients who don’t wish to suffer from mental decline with dementia. When you decide you would rather die than lose your mind and bring your family along for the ride, there is an option.
Here’s part of the note I sent to the author…
“Both my grandfather and aunt died with Lewy Body dementia. And, lately, I’ve been worrying about what would happen for me + my family if dementia were to come for me.
I cried and cried through your book- I thank you for each important detail and the great care you took with it. I know that I have an option that can prevent so much suffering for us all if it’s needed.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
