An Old Lady Lippie, How Authentic Nests Are Built, and I Trust in US

1. When the 20 year old daughter says that your make up game is ON POINT lately… I think the reason she said that was: I have been wearing little to no foundation, Ticket to Brazil and this lip that my friend Mary turned me on to. If you’re a “mature” lady and you love make up, this creator at youtube can open doors.
2. Let Them. Disentangling yourself from being co-dependent on people you LOVE is hard. One powerful question to ask is, “Are you working HARDER than they are?” Liz Gilbert’s new memoir stars codependency and I loved when she said that, “You break it, we fix it” is the motto of all co-dependents! I haven’t listened to her book yet- but I plan to- its FREE at Spotify if you’re a member.
“Letting go doesn’t mean that you don’t care about someone anymore.
It’s just realizing that the only person you really have control over is yourself.” – Deborah Reber
3. Journaling is ROCKET FUEL for your soul. Lately, it’s helping me feel the fear and do it any way. A journal with questions built in helps get you started. Try this: Get out a photo of you, aged 4-8 years old. Pull her onto your lap and write down everything you want to her to know. Ask her what she needs from you now…and then, for the love of GOD, DO IT.
4. Limits Are Tools of Expansion. I am in a season where I will decidedly work “small” with my art. When I had just 120 days to write the Book of Beasties, I feel like some of my most creative (and useful!) writing emerged. In 2019, the only thing I could handle, artistically, was a 2 inch square of paper and watercolors. That restriction, helped me blossom into the artist I am today who has no problem filling 5 foot square canvases. Austin Kleon reminds us that working small could be BIG.
6. Something I found myself saying several times this week. I once was at an Ayahuasca ceremony where the shaman leading the whole thing sort of checked out. For a moment, it was terrifying. Plant medicine experiences are not always easy. Who would keep us safe? Then, one guy began to play a familiar song about love on his guitar. We all began to sing together. The fear went away. There is no one person who can be our guru/savior….but there is US. Together. I trust in us. I trust in us. I trust in us.
7. A good nest gives you strength. I have paintings from Mincing Mockingbird because they are absurd and wonderful. I have block print fabrics on the pillows –they remind me of sacred India, a place full of contradictions and sacred wisdom. I have soft wool afghans i have thrifted because the knitting reminds me of my mom. I have plates that Nathalie Lete painted because her art revives my soul. To strengthen your own nest, study what you love. Study the home of Amy Sedaris to see how a proper authentic nest is built. Create a PINTEREST board like mine to catalog your desires.
I am shifting, for the time being, to seeing clients only virtually. You can always make an appointment for coaching, shamanic healing or a divination session here.
Much love,
Sarah
