Why an Official Diagnosis of Adult ADHD Might Matter
(My sister Maria Bamford above at Amazing ALonso- our local neighborhood bookstore!)
I notice that, online, a lot of people mention that they “suspect” they are ADHD or that they are “pretty sure” that they are.
After reading “Driven to Distraction” by a Harvard trained MD (who also has ADHD!), I was TOO.
But, I wasn’t entirely sure until I visited a psychologist and had a formal evaluation, including TOVA testing.
Before reaching out for professional help, I felt muddled and unsure. I was filled with doubt and a dollop of shame.
Was something, in fact, wrong with me?
For me, getting my suspicions confirmed by a professional made a BIG difference.
My healing and learning truly began only after I had more CERTAINTY About the diagnosis.

2. The Writing Prompt That Got Us All Nodding Our Heads This Week
Journaling has become a good friend in this season. I grew up with a mom who held the @newyorkermag and other things that were touted as EXCELLENT in high esteem. To be a celebrated author, filmmaker, teacher, creator etc seemed to be the MOST worthy thing in her eyes. I wanted her attention so much.
Maybe I internalized that message- and in some ways got the (wrong) idea that love had to be earned.
My momma loved me and certainly she never intended that.
But I’ve noticed how when I feel unworthy or isolated in some way, my instinct is to I hustle harder…
…what if today I knew that I was worthy of it all no matter what?:).
I intend to go out into the world with that spirit today!!
How would you spend the day if you believed that?

For today, I would see my clients in peace and I would send this newsletter out without any attachment to the outcome AND I’d skip gong to the studio in the hour I have free –and go for a long soulful walk with myself this afternoon.
Sending you big hugs and high fives. YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB!
