It’s Time for a Back to School REFRESH
1. Back to School ReFRESH! My kids are adults now, so I only get mild FLASHBACKS when I see back to school supplies in the aisle at Walgreens. Those school supply lists did a number on my ADHD brain!
I do think of Mid August as a turning point into a season of retraction and renewal. Time to harvest. To slow down and to reFRESH all that I am up to.
A. I get excited to learn something NEW. This fall, I’m thinking about joining The Mythic Body – a year long course from the creator of the Emerald Podcast which I adore.
I love to learn and have assignments (about topics that fascinate me OF COURSE!)
What is the BEST online education experience you’ve ever had? I am curious! HIt reply and let me know if it feels good! Id like to compile a list for us!
B. I get excited to wear sweaters and warmer layers. I used to buy VOGUE September Issue for fun inspo. These days I am more into seeing what is old in my closet that I could make NEW again. I just bought a super stretchy comfy jumpsuit from women-owned Title Nine that I LOVE too. I also love the artist driven Nooworks for fun colorful pieces to bring JOY INTO YOUR OUTFITS.
C. I give myself a haircut. If you have longish wavy or curly hair like me- I highly recommend this method!

2. A Few Books I Can Recommend!
One of my favorite characters in fiction forever will be Charlotte from E.B. White’s “Charlotte’s Web”. ne The main beastie character in “Remarkably Bright Creatures” is giving her competition. Highly recommend!
The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien is a remarkable book about what it’s like to go to war. Written by a Minnesotan- it’s one of the very best books I have read about combat. It will open your heart to everybody who has been touched by war in your family and ancestry.
Sailing Home by Norman Ficher offers a wonderful guide to the story of Homer’s Odyssey : the struggle of a (wo)man on a long and difficult voyage longing to return to love and family. Odysseus’s strivings to overcome both divine and earthly obstacles and to control his own impulsive nature hold valuable lessons for us as we confront the challenges of daily life. Sailing Home breathes helped me see how we have LONG known the journey and struggles of the seeker! You’ll recognize your own journey here. I LOVED it!
3. Sometimes a New Lip Will Change Your Life. I had been noticing that my friend Mary looked fabulous and Her LIP!! It was this wonderful color! I asked her about it! She spilled the tea. She said this lip stuff gets put on at 8 am and doesn’t come off until she decides to go to bed and uses micellular water to remove it.
She did NOT lie! No smudge– no leakage into your crinkly wrinkles. I got my own and I am OBSESSED. Less than 20 dollars. I bought the color “Ringleader”
4. My Brain Lies to Me All Day! Especially about how fun or exciting my life is…and how much people care about me…OR how many connections I have.
Does your brain do this too? Mine whispers things like,
“Other people have really close friends and they are hanging out watching a really great show and laughing right now!”
OR
“You have done nothing interesting this week, what is wrong with you? Other people have made great PLANS!”
One thing that has been a “cure” for this mentally defeating experience is to go through my photos on my phone.
I happen to take a lot of pictures- and there is so much PROOF in there that my life is interesting and that I do know and care about so many wonderful people and they care about me too!
PROOF of my (often!!) happy, connected and fascinating life…..

(me painting at a flower farm with Frank Sander, feelow artist- photo taken by Patricia Canelake)

Me with my funny self portrait made with leftover paint at the end of a day! When I painted this I thought about all the artists in history that did the same- and what it might have felt like for them to do it! fascinating!

Me with my sister Maria Bamford at one of our local bookstores (Amazing Alonzo!) where we had so much fun with the owner Eric! WE also swam, claimed on islands, watched bad TV, jumped on mini-tramps and PONY SWEATED when she was here!
What does your brain lie to you about?
How could you amass evidence to gently remind yourself that you are doing OK? Would photos work? Could you ask a friend how you are doing through their eyes? Go easy on yourself.
WE are all just little kids here (metaphorically speaking) in a world that can be hard.
5. Quote that LIBERATES ME:
“true power is living the realization that you are your own healer, hero, and leader. it is when you share your truth with compassion and peace. your power grows when you make progress in your own freedom and wisdom. those who are truly powerful do not harm themselves or others; instead, they use their energy to enrich all they know with love.”

“My Favorite Things Matter”
Monoprints
by Sarah Bamford Seidelmann
This special series of monoprints created by Sarah Bamford Seidelmann using a painterly technique on plates with a printing press. Each print is one of a kind and rendered in oil based ink on archival paper. The subject matter she has chosen is reflecting her emotional need, in a world of chaos, to focus and elevate the things that matter most such as: the capacity of the heart, home, wild animal wisdom, kindly dogs, and flowers to name a few.
l’ll have some smaller oils and landscapes too!

The Physician Coaching Summit is a truly heart centered gathering for physicians who coach. Whether you are a newer coach or an experienced one, a coach within an organization or an entrepreneur, certified, or not, you belong here. PCS happens at the optimal intersection of retreat and conference, where collaborative learning is abundant but so is rest and renewal with nourishing food and connection. Some highlights of this year’s Physician Coaching Summit include a full moon Yoga Nidra led by Dr. Rashmi Schramm, a private sound bath, and a very special photographer documenting the event and offering headshot mini sessions for at least the first twenty registered attendees.
