The Reckless Largesse of Peonies

16 x 20 inches mixed media on canvas with wire hanger.

My mom always created the most beautiful simple and wild arrangements of lupine and peonies at her lake cottage.  They made the whole place SING!  I do my best to carry on the tradition.  Flowers make almost everything a whole lot better.

An excerpt from Mary Oliver’s Peonies:

…Do you love this world?
Do you cherish your humble and silky life?
Do you adore the green grass, with its terror beneath?

Do you also hurry, half-dressed and barefoot, into the garden,
and softly,
and exclaiming of their dearness,
fill your arms with the white and pink flowers,

with their honeyed heaviness, their lush trembling,
their eagerness
to be wild and perfect for a moment, before they are
nothing, forever?
